Biography

Thomas holds a BFA degree in photojournalism from Rochester Institute of Technology. He has worked for daily newspapers in Texas, New York and Pennsylvania.

In May 2008 Thomas became the staff photographer for the Cullen College of Engineering where he supplies photographs for the college website, the news room, Parameters Magazine and The Cougar Engineeri magazine.

Previous to working for UH Cullen College of Engineering he was the University of Houston staff photographer from August 2001 May 2008. While he was the university photographer , he photographed sports, features, news, architecture and portraits.

Thomas' photographss have received numerous awards including 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) awards, University Photographers Association of America (UPAA) awards, Texas Lone Star awards, Associated Press awards, Silver Quill awards and the UPAA Fuji Press award.

In addition to his full-time employment with the Cullen College of Engineering Thomas has been the Major League Soccer Houston Dynamo team contract photographer since the Houston Dynamo were established in 2005.

besides working for Cullen College of Engineering and the Houston Dynamo he is a freelance photographer for the Houston Chronicle and USA Today, and a contract photographer for Icon Sports Media, and Getty Images.Assignments include photographing the Houston Astros, Houston Texans as well as area NCAA college sports. He is also the team photographer for the MLS 2006 and 2007 Champion Houston Dynamo. His photographs have been published in Texas Monthly, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated For Kids, National Geographic Spanish Edition, Dive, Fortune, The Financial Times, Popular Mechanic, The Dallas Morning News, The Palm Beach Post and numerous other publications.

Originally from West Chester, Pennsylvania, Thomas relocated to Houston, Texas in 1994 to pursue a career as a high school photography teacher. Thomas taught for four years before returning to photography fulltime. His love of photography is evident in all aspects of his life; he has documented his wifes, Lora, twin pregnancy and birth, and continues to document his twin girls, Hannah and Sarah. In addition to photography and spending time with his family, he enjoys playing ice hockey and swimming.
